“I am ERYT 200 yoga instructor and currently working on my RYT 500, Yoga for Cancer Training and Kundalini Yoga Training. I have always had a very special place in my heart for young people. I believe that it is part of my life purpose to help people to be successful in all areas of life but most importantly in learning to love and accept ourselves for who and what we are. Through my free of charge practice of yoga I found a connection of mindfulness, comfort within my pranayama (breath) and the sense of peaceful oneness. These are the qualities of yoga that I guide students to embrace while on their mats and encourage to take with them out into the world. My soul smiles when I can offer love, acceptance, encouragement and peace to others during their practice and in their lives. I am looking forward to helping you develop a yoga practice that will help you find a place of peace and connection on and off the mat.”

Special Volunteer Orientation (about mentorship for LGBTQ youth)
Thursday, June 22 at 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (1111 Cordell Street, Denton)
Learn how YOU can be a supportive mentor and friend to LGBTQ youth in Denton County by coming to our volunteer orientation. Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) leverages one-to-one mentoring relationships to help at-risk youth – including LGBTQ teens – increase their social-emotional competence, academic success, and ability to avoid risky behaviors. BBBS also provides quality community service opportunities for LGBT and ally adults, broadening the community’s impact across Denton County and North Texas.
Did you know…
- LGBTQ youth make up 5-7% of the nation’s youth.
- LGBTQ youth cite non-accepting families, school bullying, and fear of being out or open as their greatest problems.
- LGBTQ youth are more than twice as likely as non-LGBTQ youth to experiment with alcohol and drugs.
- LGBTQ youth are more likely than non-LGBTQ youth to report that they do not have an adult they can talk to about personal problems.
Let’s work together to support youth. This event is hosted by OUTreach Denton in partnership with BBBS. No RSVP required.
